Make Plans for a Creative Summer!

Summertime evokes childhood memories of pleasant hours spent in art classes in the museums galleries and on its lawns. Let your child enjoy the pleasures of painting, drawing, making sculptures, and other extraordinary creations while learning to appreciate masterpieces of art in our newly reopened 1916 building.

Your choice of two sessions:
10 class weekday program meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 1-31, 2008
5 class weekend program meets Saturdays, June 28-July 26, 2008

Class times for both sessions are 10-11:30 or 1-2:30
Registration for CMA members begins May 3; open registration after May 17

Summer Art Class Descriptions

Art for Parent and Child (age 3)
When experimenting with materials and techniques, four hands are always better than two! Parents and children learn about art together by looking at and making art in various media. New projects every session. MORNINGS ONLY, BOTH SESSIONS

Mini-Masters (ages 4-5)
Exploration, invention and discovery are encouraged as younger students talk about artwork and work with a multitude of materials in the classroom. Children sharpen small motor and observational skills while having fun.

Museum Zoo (ages 5-6)
Flap your wings, wag that tail! The museums collection abounds with animals, both wild and tame. Children learn about shapes, colors and pattern, while crafting their own creative creatures from paint, paper, clay and more.

Summer Breeze (ages 6-8)
Its a bird…. Its a plane… its…. ART! Bugs, birds and butterflies inspire children to explore all things floating in the sky. Students look at art both old and new to create everything from tiny treasures to mighty mobiles.

Creating in Color (ages 8-10)
Whats your favorite color? Come and experiment with us as we mix a riotous rainbow of color in paint, pastels, even handmade paper. Learn how color can change your mood or a piece of art.

What is That? (ages 10-12)
Artists have a history of working in all kinds of materials, with amazing results. Students learn methods used in ancient and medieval images created from melted wax and egg tempera, modern sculptures made from recycled machines, and mixed media made from anything imaginable.

Teen Drawing Workshop (ages 13-17)
Teens sharpen their drawing skills with pencil, charcoal, pen and ink, and experiment with printmaking. Sign up for both the morning and afternoon weekday sessions for a full day of art (no lunchtime supervision).
